A few words from the organizers: The workshop will focus on material identification and analysis using powder diffraction and the Powder Diffraction File™. We will cover the fundamental physics of diffraction, instrumentation, specimen preparation and typical sources of error in a powder diffraction experiment. For material identification and analysis we will use the Powder Diffraction File, PDF-4+ database. Time locked databases will be provided to attendees bringing their own laptops and we will demonstrate how to process data, interpret, and evaluate the results. We will also review and demonstrate software and various tools used for crystallite size analysis, crystallinity and quantitative phase analysis. We will include examples of crystalline, amorphous and nanocrystalline materials and the tools used to analyze them. The tools can be used with all types of diffraction; laboratory x-rays, synchrotron, neutron and electron.
